I arrived early at Buzz Night because Allan told Pillow and Candy we were going to practice before the production. Unfortunately, Allan became very sick that day. By the appointed 8:30pm, we were all there except for him and it even looked as if he wasn’t going to be able to show. Oh no!
Also, the bands were not there early. Los Chupacabras were (thank you!), but they wanted to go third (and I had told them they could choose a slot if they were early), so there was still the problem of the first two. The other bands were nowhere to be found yet. Uh-oh.
Ok, so far, I’ve been ending my paragraphs with ominous exclamations. Things did turn around, however, when Allan walked into the door, looking like a large mass of pain. He fell into a chair and asked what the status of the lineup was. Then he said Candyaudioline was up.
The show started at about 9:45pm. Good. But there were very few people, so I was getting worried. Plus, Allan looked like he was he was going to slump over any minute. And we had a new bassist in Arjay (from Poopoo Vox), who was feeling anxious if he had remembered the basslines or not. Eep. But we did surprisingly well… our set was good, we really enjoyed (I was making a fool of myself dancing on the stage, which isn’t a pretty sight and was probably due to my abnormally accelerated metabolism), and the people really enjoyed, too. Good. :) But we sort of flubbed “Felt So Fine” because they decided to brave a new version… Allan said it was pretty much sung the same way, and it was, except that he forgot to tell me that there was no second intro, so I kind of lost the lines somewhere. Woohoo!
Next was supposed to be Bagetsafonik because Doy had to get back to 77 Hemady CafĂ© early, but they were having problems with traffic, so I became worried again. Fortunately, my friend Carl said he and his bandmates were getting too drunk and that they could go next. Whew! I can only describe Los Chupacabras as a Parokya ni Edgar with punk and indie sensibilities, though I’m sure that doesn’t do them justice. They’re very irreverent, but fun to watch. I still can’t believe their song “Satan Rules” got them in trouble at Conspiracy Bar, when someone asked them to cut their set because they were eeeeevil. It sounded pretty harmless to me.
Bagets was still caught in traffic and Arjay (who was sessioning for Pillow) had to go home already, so Soft Pillow Kisses took the stage. They were quite rusty, which made me and Charles laugh. Allan by this time was obviously hallucinating onstage, so their set became pretty surreal. But hey, they’re Soft Pillow Kisses, man. You can forgive them for anything!
Finally, Bagetsafonik was up. Aww, I’m such a fan girl. What can I say? I loved their set! It was great to have them back for Buzz Night. The crowd really liked them. Popular Days followed, and people swooned even more. They were really in top form that night, and Charles sang the most perfect and sincere “Watch Out For Me”! I even overheard Ace of Bagets say, Pare, I liked you guys before, but now, I’m just…. Haha! I quote freely, but I just had to say to that, “And I thought I was a fan girl!”
(It was sometime around this point that Allan had to leave because he was feeling terribly ill.)
Next up was Easy Mersey for a Buzz Night comeback. This three-piece did really great sixties-type stuff (sorry, I think the term is “mersey,” but I’m not sure teehee). They’re a lot tighter now and I’m looking forward to them playing again. They were followed by Kings and Pawns, who gave an amazing set as well. Man, keep this up and I’ll be twice the fan girl I already am! Ano na sa complete package? They have it all! We were on a time crunch, but I just had to let them play some extra songs, even if Mayric’s was breathing down my neck for it. Besides, people loved them.
Last band for the night was---- yay!!!--- Tether! They’re back with a new lineup and are as mean as ever! Their new vocalist is skilled, though a little Ashlee Simpson-ish… oh well, that can be fixed. For a first performance, they were really good! Nowhere but up, my friends.
Ok, this isn’t exactly an unbiased account of Buzz Night, but I can’t help but give such a glowing review of it. It was unbelievably fun. Of course, by the end of the night (an early 2:00am! Wow!), I was exhausted and having a bad-hair-everything. It was worth it. I knew something exciting was going to happen at Buzz Night.
Please stand by for photos... probably they'll be up by the end of the week.

Announcement:
I don’t know why, but Buzz is going to be early this month. It’s in two weeks, on November 12. So Buzz Night bands, if you’re reading this and you’d like to be part of it, please text Allan ASAP and let him know so we can settle the lineup early :) Thanks!

Candy gigs!
hi there...
it seems that we've been very quiet for the past few days.... actually, we haven't been completely together for the past few weeks. i just realised that we haven't even played a single gig for quite some time now. the last gig we played was last month's buzz night and that was last september 24 pa... ang tagal na pala. we were suppose to play at mayrics last monday but joel wasn't available and also last oct 3 at 70's bistro but that time, selena was having asthma attacks. i'm beginning to think that we are being cursed... nyeee heeheeehheeee.... hope that's not true...
actually, we still have some gigs lined up for this month... on the 21st of ocotber we'll be playing at INNO Bar (formerly "ten years after"). then on monday the 24th , we'll be at mayrics and on the 29'th will be buzz night... can't wait to play live again...
by the way, we were able to resume practice again last sunday and i'm quite happy about last sunday's session. actually, since i've been having a hard time writing new songs for the past 3 years, i've recently done some changes with a few of our staple faves. we've already manage to do this to three of our songs namely "my silver chair", "don't go away" and "felt so fine". of the three, the one that has undergone the must drastic change has been "my silver chair". the song's indierock/noisepop/metal character has been replaced with a more confident dance-personality. actually, this has become our favourite song of the moment and have been playing it live already. second, the dreaminess of "don't go away" has been replaced by a more sincere easy-listening feel to it. but my current favourite "felt so fine" has also undergone quite a make-over. it's snappy shoegazey-ness has been replaced by a very indiepoppish sound but wait 'til it reaches the instrumental - speedmetal at it's worst hehehehe. just can't wait to do it live...
that's all for now. i'll leave you a few lines from a song by the sprites called "do it yourself"...
"never start a band, with a best friend... never shake hands, never make plans..."

So, let's see what we can talk about. Okay, some thoughts on the issue about rip-offs. Mukhang apektadong apektado kasi si Allan dun sa PBB theme. In fairness, katunog talaga ng verse! Ang weird nga nung nabasa ko na sabi ng guy na after taking a good look at both songs, they conclude that they each have their merits that make them individual treasures or something like that (i freely paraphrase here, of course). Ngyar. Pero di lang naman sila. Ang daming katunog diyan. i heard that one band denies they've ever heard of "greatest view", even if it was a big hit a few years back. and another parries their own rip-off issue with, "we admit we're fans of this band... that's it."
But here's the thing: Sige, no one can help songs sounding like each other cuz almost everything's been done already... especially if you're a fan and you have a tendency to emulate what you admire. but man, there's a difference between emulating and ripping off. the worst part is that you're making money off this. if you're really fans, shouldn't you be carefully watching out for the degree of rip-off you're doing?
oh well, this is a bit off self-righteous bull, i admit. but it's just common sense. being fans, they should have been able to tell they were getting too close for comfort.

nagpagupit yung sister ko kahapon at ang cute cute niya. para siyang indie pop cutie. well, you know what they say: "once you go short, you never go bort." Nge.

Hmmm. We Are Very Quiet...
hello everyone...
seems that it's been days since our last post... we have been very very quiet recently... so quiet that i'm beginning to get scared... hmmm, why, why, why are we so quiet?
i for one have been very busy for the past couple of weeks and just recently had undergone the traumas of being ripped-off by poeple whom of which i have been very kind to... lesson learned "trust is more of a brand name - for condoms - than something you could easily give to people around you. i lost a cell phone because of me trusting someone who i though was a harmless human being.
i now have been having problems with my bands because i've given my full confidence to people whom i have doubts before but in hoping that they'd appreciate the chance i've given them and would've wisen up but guess what? they are still the same old burden to me and my other bandmates who are one with me in all the things i want to do. when will this problem of mine ever end. i always have this wish that someday i'll have bandmates that will please me in whatever little way they can, trusting my full know-how of things in this little circle that i go about. i get really annoyed when they do things like: making as if they know this or that, coming to practice not prepaired, backing out of a committment at the last minute using very unimaginable excuses, taking for granted promises made. gosh, i could write a whole novel of things that some of my friends and bandmates do that irritates me but there are two things that "really gets my goat". one is when they try covering up their mis-givings by trying to act as if they are totally unaware of their wrong doings and in the process ending up - in my book - as truly dumb poser or to be more accurate, i'll refer to them as "real assholes". second is when they're not listening and would just go about doing what they feel is right. hello... i've known this shit for nearly 20 years and i've been doing this for nearly 10 years, how can i go wrong... okey enough of that... i just hope that someday they'll change. i've been very kind and generous to these people not expecting anything thing in return. all i want is that they respect and value my kindness and generousity.
so what has been happenning to us lately and why have we been so quite?
hmmm... candy was suppoed to have a practice last sunday in preparation for a stint at 70's bistro last night but selena got sick and kel was somehere far away. so i let soft pillow kisses fill in for candyaudioline.
we almost made a fool of ourselves last night... i lost a an E string in the last part of the first song - "it will never last forever" - and our volume was really way too low. the people were quite. really scary. i was able to borrow a guitar from gab of PNE and decided to play "i was right" as the next song but the guitar was not in tune. by this time, the silence of the crowd gave us an idea of what it is like being targets in a "firing squad". good thing i had my tuner with me on stage.t we where able to pull ourselves together by the third song "bathing in the sun". people were listinning to us again. inspite of having problems in singing "stolen flowers" our forth song, people like the song very much. there was even this guy who approached gilbert and me, who bought a copy of "i'd spend my day with you" shaking his head in dis-belief that soft pillow kisses are Filipinos... we dicided to do "stay here for a while" as our last song... we went down the stage truly appreciated and hopefully remembered... hyeh hehehe...
hopefully, selena gets to recover at the soonest possible time. we plan to play at mayrics this October 17, hopefully on the 21st somewhere near ABS-CBN. on the 25th (altough i'm not counting on this)somewhere in malate. and lastly, back to mayrics on the 29th for Buzz Night!!!
last sunday, me and dennis when to greenbelt for a business meeting / contract signing that i had arranged for one of our backbeat bands. then we went to M1 where i was able to get me a copy of another FPJ movie "Roman Rapido"... ang saya saya!!!then we decided to watch a spanish film entitled "Hector"... grabeh ha, atin atin lang ito ha... naiyak po ako!!!
by the way: lets pray for the quake victims of pakistan. let us also pray that we never get to suffer a calamity of the such magnitude...
