Steady Just Steady...

Hello Everyone...Just trying to take things steadily... it's been really rough during the past few months with endless issues haunting us prompting question on "whether or not" and "to or not to"... attempts were taken but twarted just about at the supposedly right moment...anyways... i'm still not used to this "Candyaudioline Thing" of being always on the brink but i just can't do anything about it... Still no album for the meantime... blame it on internal business politicizing... recently practiced and played a gig just a few days ago which as always was fun but...i just miss those early months of 2010 when everything seems to be going our ways and evrything was simply easy...still 2 new songs, an album on the brink of release and a future that will always be uncertain whether we will or we will not...it's the last few days of January 2012... wishing for better days ahead of us...'til the next post...

Got a chance to talk to Jeff (Candyaudioline Drummer) last night... i asked him if he was still interested in playing drums for Candyaudioline... He said yes... We'll just have to wait and see if things will pick up from there...Atleast there's something positive to look forward to...

October is almost over and still nothing to get excited about... the same old situations of coping with some the things i hate most...

Wish we could or i could find people / someone who'd help us / me finish things... Wish there's something inspiring about this situation we're in at the moment...

haven't really posted for a long time coz i can't find the use for such but i guess
there is...

Honestly i feel like it's not going to go anywhere... the waiting has gone to long... i should've let things be when the situation was there... now I'm regretful for giving it another try... a total waste of my / our time...

I just wish people could be more honest and just... mindful of others and not just play safe looking after themselves not considering how difficult it is for the 'affected others"...

Often derided as My Bloody Valentine clones, I would beg to differ by offering the following proof that the two groups aren’t nearly as similar as some would have you believe. Although Slowdive does the swooning boy/girl layered vocals, the manner in which they are presented isn’t as obscured as those found on Loveless. Kevin Shields was known for his use of volume and tape saturation as a means to achieve the guitar sound found on that classic record. Neil Halstead and co. did actually use a considerable amount of effects pedals (hence the term shoegazer) to achieve their airy sound, ending up with far more in common with groups like The Cocteau Twins and The Cure’s Disintegration than My Bloody Valentine ever did. Finally, in a move which got them dropped from Creation Records in favor of signing real clones Oasis, Slowdive produced one of the forgotten gems of 90s post-rock on Pygmalion.

So the story goes that after My Bloody Valentine had nearly bankrupted Creation Records and then couldn’t produce a follow-up to Loveless, label founder Alan McGee started signing Brit-pop groups like Oasis that were actually making money. The majority of American audiences never really caught onto the shoegaze movement during its brief existence anyhow, which was eventually snuffed out by grunge (although Kurt Cobain was noted to be a huge fan of My Bloody Valentine). Slowdive sort of got lost in the transition. Rumor has it that Oasis apparently demanded that in order to be signed to Creation, McGee had to drop Slowdive from the label roster, even though in reality Oasis had released its first single a year prior to Slowdive’s dismissal. During this period, Neil Halstead had become extremely interested in techno and ambient music. With the fact that Creation and Slowdive’s US label, SBK, had offered little to no promotion for Souvlaki and the fact that many of its band members had departed in no small part due to Halstead’s increased drug use and infatuation with the techno scene, it seemed like the group was on the verge of calling it quits. Knowing that they were about to be dropped from Creation, Halstead began work on the final Slowdive record, Pygmalion.

Hello everyone...

inspite of playing last last night, i did get to enjoy our long set... thanks to Josh who agreed to bring an amp... Sazi's Bar's amp should have been laid to rest for sometime now... hehehe

i've long been thinking of buying me an amp... even just a small 50-80 watts one so that i won't get annoyed and won't be forced to use a bad amp... during our recent buzz night stint, Monochrome was kind enough let let everyone use their amp...

last night's gig was a nice way to spend quality time with friends before leaving for the U.S. and i guess we did really good...

Just wish we could've practiced last Monday.. if we did, i would have 2 new Candy songs to listen to during our 3 week absence... anyways, 3 weeks is not really that long a time but i'll sure going to miss this for the time being...

it's almost 1:30am, got to prepare my stuff... 'til the next post...

Hello everyone...

i'm not sure if it's safe to say it, but i guess we're done with the recording of our album which i'll tentatively call "Lost Track Of Yesterday"... 10 tracks in all... 8 of which i'm very pleased with how they sounded... the problem is, 2 of the songs came a bit short of what i want to them to sound though...

still undecided as to when it shall come out but it will definetly be released very soon...

haven't had time to practice lately... wish we could've last Sunday... technically we have two new songs still waiting to be finalized... been trying a riff-based approach to writing songs and so far i've come up with 2 which has a bit of a post-rock feel to it but definitely, i hope it'll come to par with most of the songs we've come up with lately...

we have a gig tonight... 1 before i, together with Jeff and Dennis, leave for the U.S. this thursday...

Hello everyone...

after almost 3 straight nights staying up 'til 3am at Pink Noise, i'm glad to say that we're almost done with the Mixing Stage... we're just 2 songs short of completing the Album... It's just "Gently Fall Today" and "With No Sunshine" left while the rest have been mixed...

although, the mixing process has been quite smooth so far, except for that time when we got unsatisfactory results during the mixing of both "Away We Go" and "Far Frome Where", i think there will still be a few more adjustments before we could finally move on to the mastering stage...

i'm quite surprised at how some of the songs ended up sounding quite good which i never really expected, specially the song "So Much Of You" which had to be re-recorded, slowed down and lastly reverted back to it's up-beat form... of the mixed songs, my favourites are "Whispering Nothing", "Lose Track Of Yesterday", "Your Smiling Eyes" and "Far From Where"...

Just have to wait 'til next week...

2 Gigs 1 Night, It's Been A While...

Hello Everyone...

it's been a while since we had played at 2 different venues in 1 night...

originally, it was just supposed to be at 70' Bistro but upon learning that there was a slot that needed to be taken because one band backed out at our prod. at sazi's, i decided to let Candy play there too...

the 70's Bistro gig was supposed to be a really enjoyable one, inspite of the fact that we really can't get our volumes up everytime we play there, but during the middle of our last (5th)song, i think the bass amp went bust... ending our set on a slightly dissappointing note... still i think we played very well specially during the 2 new songs ("Your Smiling Eyes" and Lost Track Of Yesterday")... then off we went to Sazi's...

i wasn't really expecting that we'll have a swell time at sazi's knowing the fact that we'll be playing infront of a slightly young crowd weened on music that is predominant;y "emo"... but i like playing to an unsuspecting public... Coming from 70's Bistro, which was really Jampacked, i was a bit surprised that Sazi's was also a bit full-house... and also the P.A. system was louder than usual... it made me want to play more... when it was our time to play, we wasted no time setting up... all the amps were sounding so good... once we started playing, i knew that it was going to be enjoyable... our volumes swelled everytime we moved on to the next song... i was really enjoying it so instead of playing just 4 songs, i decided to add one more song at the last minute... we went down the stage smiling...

hope we'd have a chance at doing this again... 'til the next post...

Hello everyone...

as usual... everything's quiet again here at Camp Candy... wasted are the days wherein everyone's free yet no one wants to take the initiative... well, Arjay and Dennis have been asking me as to when's the next Practice...

I don't really understand myself as to what's with me lately... i should have accepted the fact that it has always been i who should be taking charge of things but why am i sitting things out? why am just letting things pass by? am i enjoying this?

Partly to blame. i think, is this current side project that i'm having which i have "tentatively" called "Lipstick Tragedy"... it's slowly turning into a joke mainly because i've been very unlucky getting myself a drummer who;s willing to commit... i've already approached two... the first one attended 1 practice session, mysteriously dissappeared for almost three weeks than informed me last Saturday that she was ready only to text me again the next day that she could no longer commit herself to us... at least the second drummer informed me the day after i approahed her that she can't play drums for us since her other band is starting to get busy... Maybe its time to ditch the idea of having a girl for a drummer... also, i'm having abery hard time writing the songs... i've only managed two as of the moment... stupid of me not realising early on that Glitter Rock requires a lot when it come to arrangements and also with regards to vocal melodies... sadly i'm way too short with regards to that department... but that doesn't mean that i've given up already... i haven't even started my search for the vocalist of this group...

So what about things at Candy? i've not much to say really... i do miss it a lot though...

Hello evryone...

Time flies so fast and somehow it's March already... Summer's supposed to have arrived a few days ago but instead all we see are clouds in the sky... Still, it's been very humid the past couple of days... i usually feel very uncomfortable during this kind of weather... It is very hard to go about things due mainly to the promise of uncertainty that such a scenario offers...

That being taken into account, it's not very different from what's been happening to Candyaudioline lately... Too many things are forcing us to slow down a bit to a point that i feel we're being forced into a girnding halt...

The point of being in this group is mainly just to enjoy this gift and share it with others but it is really very hard to share something that's somewhat falling apart... i've refrain from listing to our songs for the past few weeks mainly because of the situation we're in right now...

The right word to call us right now is.... A "Promise"... We have just become another Promise... Something that may or may not happen... And that's the worst thing i would want us to be... Like Soft Pillow Kisses... People who knows would understand what i'm blabbering about...

It's March already... Sooner or later it'll be April... Don't want to wait anymore but there's nothing we can do about it for now...

Beer, Pizzas, Mojos And A Slightly Long Walk...

Hello evryone.

Me, Dennis and Celene had a few bottles of Beer, A Family Sized Pizza and Some Mojos at Celene's Place...

being inactive, we talked about lots things related to the band... a huge abundance of "What", Whys" and "Hows" was how the conversation was... Actually it was mostly "Whys" and "Hows"... we touched almost every topic ranging from the essentials on to utter non-sense... Remeniscing, looking forward but most of the time sticking to the present, questioning the very sense of it all which, even as we where in our most senseful selves, was outright sneseless...

maybe and maybe not was the common conclusion that we always came to arrive at... then, we all to realised that it was getting late... but 2:30am isn't that late when it comes to our standards... we usually end practicing until 3:30am in those good 'ol times... but life will always be "Like A Wheel" spinning...

unfortunately for Candyaudioline...

it was a long walk for me and Dennis to where we could get ourselves a cab... silence was everywhere, the lights were dim and the road is wide... i can hear the trees whispering promises to my tired ears... i listened for a while but i didn't really care...

At Last... Where To?

hello everyone...

i've been wanting to do this for a long time but never really had the proper motivation or the slightest reason and confidence to do so...

now that i've done it, i was able to get some positive results from it... so where does this take us... still i don't know... well, that's alaways been the case and i've slowly learned to embrace it...

so it'll be another step i guess but i'm not sure as to how should i be doing it... actually, there are still far to many things to consider specially now, given our current situation of which, if you have been following is not the very likely one we would want to be to start with... but at least...

we're still in the yellow zone, meaning...

i guess i'm not making sense to most of you but to those who you seems to be getting to where i'm at right now, just wait and see and...

It Should've Been...

hello everyone...

the first Buzz Night of 2011 was a bit weird for me... i was only able to confirm the gig barely 4 days before gig time and was able to complete the line up 2 days prior... in short, i wasn't really expecting a medium sized crowd or a somewhat festive atmosphere... plus the fact that i wasn't really up to it with both of my bands not realy a hundred percent prepared...

i got there really late with Dennis thanks to that UST thing happening just across... hours before i thought Mar was joking when he said that the place was packed... well, not everyone was there for the event... most of them were UST students just hanging out waiting for the traffic to thin out... still a crowd's a crowd and i was happy to know that the bands playing that night were being exposed to unsuspecting ears...

i arrived halfway thru Slumbook's set and was eager to see visiting old friends but was really surprised to see more than i was expecting... Kel and Deanna were there, Zhai and Remmy and even Rene although he had to go early so i didn't really got to see him... Lara was there too and i even got her to play bass in 2 songs with Pillow...

as usual, my Pillow and Candy-mates were also enjoying themselves with Celene, who was a bit under the influence of the stars and alcohol at that time, being the center of attraction... i just can't help laughing my guts out when Joms did that wrestling move to Celene...

anyways, on to our set... which i guess was were everything started to slightly fall apart... first, one of my strings snapped so i had to use Mar's telecaster which i didn;t really liked... then my amp was beginning to fall apart... also, Josh was a bit tired which made us miss Jeff some more... but to top things off was Celene's dancing... it was really a let down but we really can't do anything about it...

it should've been something but it has happened so maybe we'll just have to wait til next gig to...

that'll be that for now.. i'm really sleepy...

we've been very active lately... we've already played 3 gigs, have a new song and we even went to Baguio for a quick gulp of cool air...

but there seems to be something just around the corner that might cause a sudden stop to our slightly happy 2011 journey...

i've just learned of this last night and was quite upset... i felt much more agitated when one of my bandmates (jokingly) suggested that if ever that "unfortunate situation" comes out then, there's no use moving on...

well i don't really give a fuck whether everyone leaves... it's nothing new really... i only thing that gets me annoyed is the idea that just because you're bound to lose a single strand of hair you're about to let go of the rest... that's really something isn't it...

i just can't help feeling really offended...

Candyaudioline Baguio Trip (January 9, 2011)

We all went to baguio last January 9... left manila at around 4am... ate at select nlex 'til 5am then off we went...

we got there at around 9:30am i guess and wasted no time appreciating the view and the climate, although i was slightly disappointed becuase i was expecting it to be really cold...

we got to stay at this really cheap inn in which me and dennis remember very well as the place where candyaudioline also stayed when we played there december 30, 2006...
no electrical out lets, no wi-fi and worse, the bathroon is located outside of your room...

i took a brief nap and at around 2pm we all went out for a stroll... we never really get to go anywhere since no one wanted to drive the van and i had to let our driver rest since we all planned to leave at around midnight...

we went to burnham park and had lunch there... then rented a jeepney to take us to mines view and after an hour or so, we went back to the inn but i went to church before returning to the inn...

we had our dinner at andok's session road and decided to drink somewhere near the cliffs of marcos highway before heading straight home...

First Gig For 2011 At B-Side...

Hello Everyone!!!

Last night we played our first gig for 2011 at B-Side in makati... Actually singit lang kami kasi i really wanted to demo 2 new songs ("So Much Of You" and "With No Sunshine")... kaya sana 3 songs na bago (+ "Your Smiling Eyes") kung di lang sana mahahaba ito... Syempre nakakhiya naman sa lahat ng banda dun, eh singit nalang nga tapos mag-dadami pa ng kanta... syempre as usual, bitin pa rin sa amin ang four songs pero okey na rin...

oks naman yung kinalabasan pero talo talaga ang nagamit ko na amp... haay nakaka-inis... di ako tumutunog ng maayos kaya tuloy nawala ang confidence ko...

anyway, mabuti nalang at pogi ang tunog ni Dennis at ni Arjay and with Jeff playing expectedly well naka-raos kami ng masaya... yung lang di ko talaga marinig ang boses but according to Celine, the vocals were way up high in the mix... well i just have to trust them, although di ganun yung lumabas sa Camera ko... but i think Pancho was shooting us from near the stage kaya nasapawan yung boses...

at last, natugtog na rin yung 2 new song na maayos kaya i'm all smiles na rin... and at the same time yung nabili kong camera eh matino ang audio nya... Sony na Cybershot na W270... mas mababa dun sa una ko na W290 pero mas okey naman dun sa isa pa naming nabili na W330... Don't buy those W300-Series cybershots specially if your into recording videos of gigs... the sound just sucks big time although the picture quality is really good... i just wish that Sony would someday come out with something that is truly worth buying - specially those low end Cameras - for people like me who likes recording videos of concerts and small gigs...

i wish i could post some videos but i wasn't able to set the camera to record smaller sized videos. most the videos taken are about 300mb and higher... Maybe next time...

Hello everyone...

i've been listening to our new song tentatively called "Your Smiling Eyes" and i can safely say that this one might come out to be one of the better song we'll ever do... a bit different from the previous songs we've done... it's more dream pop than shoegaze... 2 other new songs that i'm very excited recording is the Pixies-Sounding "With No Sunshine" and my current fave, the up-beat "So Much Of You"...

can't help but feel really amazed at how an array of stomp boxes could really make you sound great... Dennis has a new stomp box which is the Boss PS2 and it has really changed his sound radically... now i can hear the notes he's doing... and at times he sound more keyboard-ish than guitar which is an added treat...

me on the otherhand is quite content with just 2 stomp boxes although at times i do use 5... the only thing i need now is to learn to use my guitar's trembar...

actually while me and Dennis was listening to a new Sunshine Factory song i began to wonder why, inspite of my being a My Bloody Valentine die-hard fan, how come none of our songs have that trademark MBV "glide guitar" sound?... maybe in the future songs to come... just maybe...

Happy New Year To Everyone...

Saying hello to 2011... a fresh start again although i never really did had a chance to fully enjoy the "changing of the times"...

at least we were able to achieve somethng last year but it was a bit unplanned resulting in things being push too far and in the process producing unsatisfactory results... but that's all in the past and what matters is the future...

as usual there'll be no plans again for now and just like before, we'll just wait...

as of now, we have 3 new songs 2 of which we just played a few days ago at our last gig and the other one we just jammed last night... this brings the total number of fresh songs to 9... enough for and album i think... considering that most of these songs clock at five to six minutes each...

so what's there to look forward to? can't tell really... we'll just have to wait... again...

A Year Full Of Nothing But Shoegazing...

I miss posting so here i am again... and i'll try my best to be here always or at least every now and then..

shoegazing has been a big part of my life during the 1st quarter of this year... thanks to those blogsites that share really good music, specially "shoegazeralive" blogsite... they somehow ended my "dry-spell"...

i was really having a hard time writing songs for candyaudioline... i didn't want us to sound too indie rock anymore... after coming up with "cellophane smiles" nearly 2years ago, i decided to get rid of the angst and try to be more "far out and away" with my songs... but nothing came out except for some songs which i felt wasn't really up to par with what i had in mind... although 2 of them ("Like Rainbows Do" and the early version of "Lying To Ourselves") ended up with Soft Pillow Kisses and 1 ("All About Us") with Superminty... then came "Sometimes" which at first i felt was a bit of a mediocre song but i had to come up with something just to get the ball rolling... that song did turn out to be something but i was still a bit unsure at to whether i was successful in "getting rid of the angst"...

then came the dare that somewhat produced a song that me and the rest of my band mates consider an "accident"... "Away We Go" was made because Dennis was complaining that i was too much pre-occupied with Soft Pillow Kisses - which at that time, i was trying to come up with the finishing touches to a Pillow song called "Yet It's Been A While" minutes before a candy practice session... so i told him that i was going to write a song and that it was to be arranged during that session or we won't end practice unless we get it done... it took me a little over 20minutes to come up with the chords, lyrics, melodies and basic arrangements... i guess everyone was surprised at how serious i was so we proceeded with the session... at first it was shaping up to be a bit of an indie pop tune along the lines of Populardays but after me getting confused at how it was to be strummed and my bandmates suggesting to play it dead slow, everything started to fall in it's right place... punctuated by Arjay's heart shattering bass line during the intro, it was suddenly transformed into something so "out of our league"... so from that time onwards i decided to ditch the indie rock and go straight, all out dreamy...i wrote "Gently Fall Today" barely days after... i was dead sure that it was at par with "Away We Go" but wasn't to sure whether my bandmates was up to it... but after an hour of hit and misses, i was proven right and suddenly, writing songs became as easy as making coffee...

Now i'm sleepy... Just 2 days to go... 2011's just around the corner... 'til the next post...

hello everyone...

it's been a long time since our last post...

been very buzy with a lot of things lately but we are still quite actice playing gigs here and there... sometimes without Celine and other times without Jeff with Josh (SPK) helping us out... we also recorded a demo recently, a live one which i plan to upload at Candyaudioline's myspace account...

as of late, we are done recording 4 songs for a possible album to be released sometime soon... Unlike Sof Pillow Kisses's album, this one's sure to come out... sadly, none of our old songs will make it to this one, with the exception of one or two i guess, since most of the new songs that we're doing right now has none of the indierock flavourings which is so evident in our old tunes...

time to take a hike... that'll be that for the meantime... 'til the next post...

can't help but feel annoyed at what happened to us last Sunday morning at the recently concluded Cuboa X gig...

i don't have any regrets playing last... Playing last isn't really bad... i can take playing to no one anytime...

watching the video http://www.youtube.com/user/candyaudioline?feature=mhw4#p/u/0/RkRMTSgLGFc of that gig had me laughing a lot... specially those parts where a guy pops up with a broom and a dustpan cleaning up while we go along our set... but the ugly thing is...

aah nevermind... just wish the band that played before us would learn...

... to arrange their songs properly
... to do a faster method of setting up their gear
... what a SOUND CHECK is for, when to do it, how to do it and most specially HOW LONG IT SHOULD BE DONE!!!
... to be considerate of the band/bands performing after them...

it was almost 3:50am when they ended their spot... i almost had to beg one of the gig organizers so that we could still get to play coz the venue was about to pack things up at around 4am...

it's just a bit sad and a shame since these guys are really loaded with talent...
if only they'd...

December 2009 Buzz Night... And It Was Fun...

Hello everyone...

it's the end of another year and the start of a new one...

last Tuesday's Buzz Night was a perfect year ender for us... It was really fun that night thanks to a slightly huge attendance and of course, the bands who participated... it was also a sort of Candyaudioline Soft Pillow Kisses post-christmas party thing...

Lazy Lorelei, reduced to a three-piece unit, kicked-off the night... it was the first tme i saw them play as a three piece line up... the songs still hold up and their tighness helped-up a bit... Never got to watch the second band, Scarlet Tears since i was being bugged by calls concerning a recent business endeavor... also this was the time when me and Dennis went to Mini-Stop to buy paper plates, plastic spoons and forks and to meet up with Eloha (ex - SPK vox)who at that time forgot how to get to Sazi's via Lacson Route... Next up was Identikit and they dished out some really neat Indierock tunes... wish i could've helped them a bit with the mics but i was a bit pre-occupied, waiting for some friends visiting from the U.S. only 2 of which showed up... i was expecting more of since i really wanted them to see all of the bands lined up last night... a slightly depleted Soft Pillow Kisses followed (Jeff of Scarlet Tears / Candyaudioline played drums since Jann Paul wasn't around)... it was SPK's first gig in 3 months and they were also sporting a new singer... i guess SPK did a fairly decent set quickly recovering after a lack luster first song... Gentle Isolation followed... they're really good but they did struggled a bit during their cover of Primal Scream's "Gentle Tuesday"... i hope we could have more of them during Buzz Nights... Candyaudioline followed... we started with Selena singing and Ayn playing the bass in the song "An Empty You"... Celene and Maggot played the remainder of the set... i didn't got to sing that much since i was really winded... it's a good thing that Celene was up to it... maybe because she had her whole family watching... Candyaudioline did really well and this time around we were really loud unlike the last two gig's we played during this month prior to that night's gig... I only got to see a bit of Slumbook since i was trying to catch wind outside... Selena was really impressed with them though... Phantom Sizemore was the last band up and i intentionally didn't watched their sst since i didn't want to see their guitars, 2 which were once mine but i had to sell them since i was really having problems with money during the latter half of this year... if only i was able to buy that Fender U.S. Jazzmaster that afternoon ut that guitar's neck has slightly warped... hehehe my attempt at buying that 80k piece of guitar was quite an embarring experience...

after the gig, me together with some of my ex and current bandmates from both Candy and SPK went to Mr. Kebab for our customary after gig treat... also hanging out with us was Sir Carl (Lazy Lorelie), Joe (Identikit), Eric (Populardays) and the rest of Slumbook... wish we could do this everyday...

Let's say Goodbye to 2009 and all together wish that 2010 would be much better...

hello everyone,

it was one of those really enjoyable gigs again... credit that to the fact that we haven't been really gigging lately... nevertheless, we had fun... i think some of the crowd liked our stuff...

everything was good, from the amps, our gears and even the P.A. system... i was even enjoying the idea of hearing me and Celene singing... actually, i get distracted everytime i hear my voice coming out from the monitors, but last night was different...

i was thinking of playing some songs that we've been praticing lately like "Pretend That We're Smart", Broken To Pieces", "You're Not There" and "Together" but i decided on "safer songs" instead since i got a bit concerned that we might fuck up since we were playing to a slightly unfamiliar crowd...

hay naku, ang hirap na kumuha ng taxi ngayon... tapos yung mga barker boys sa amin eh ang gulo mang para ng taxi... sumaside-line na ang mga kumag... eh syempre iniisip ko na ako lang yung pinaparahan nila yun pala hindi... yung iba nakatago pa... cguro nga marami nang may pera ngayon kasi dati halos ako lang yata ang pumapara ng taxi dun sa sakayan sa amin between 1:30-3pm eh... pero ngayon marami na... ulti mo nga yung isang nakikita ko lang na magbebenta ng paborito kong isaw sa kanto namin eh naka-unahan sa pagpara ng taxi nung isang araw... syempre pinagbigyan ko nalang kasi may date daw sya...

buti pa sya, may date... kung sa bagay di pa naman masyadong malamig ngayon kahit nasa Mid-December na tayo...

This is a concert for a cause shouldered by the NPC (National Press Club) against what happened in the Magindanao Massacre along with Mr. Jesse Gonzales. We do apologize for the short notice but I hope you will support the reason for this event.

This will be on December 10, 2009 at the NPC Grounds infront of the National Press Club, Manila in which the exact location is in Intramuros between the Bureau of Immigration and Plaza Lawton, this is near the bridge and Pasig River.

The event is FREE AND WILL START AT 7PM and again, it will be on December 10, 2009.

Hello everyone...

after 2 months of being inactive, we were able to have practice last night... yun lang nabitin kami nina Dennis kasi i was hoping that it would start at around 9:30 or 10pm pero lahat kami sobrang late dumating save for Dennis...

anyways, sobrang namiss ko yung mga songs and i'm glad that most of us are still familiar with them although the first 2 tunes that we Jammed seemed a bit awkward pero as we progressed eh naging sobrang ayus na lahat save for a song or two na medyo bihira din namin natutugtog...

as usual di pa rin nawala yung kulitan at yung semi-hi-light nung gabi eh yung baliw na nagwawala sa tapat ng studio na pinag-tripan din ni Jeff at Dennis... si maggot na sobrang late dumating eh may baon pang beer at alak... pampa-lubag loob nya siguro sa mga naghintay (kami yun)... sana mapadalas yung mga ganitong practice session nang malayo naman kami ni Dennis sa di magagandang mga bagay...

by the way... mukang 1st gig namin mamaya in a long while... sa Sazi'z ito... sana masaya...

Well, nakakamiss na talaga so maybe in a few days time eh magsama-sama kami ulit... Hopefully a practice session this weekend and a gig sometime soon...

How's everyone doing na kaya?

Maggot got herself a job na medyo maaga yung pasok... just waiting for her to get adjusted tapos pag okey na siya eh saka ko na sya kukulitin sumama ulit... Si Rene muna cguro pansamantala... Me, Jeff and Dennis is pre-occupied with work pa rin kahit di masyadong marami yung tugtugan lately.. pero come December... hay buhay nga naman... Celene yata is busy rin pero i think pwede pa rin nya ma-squeeze yung pagbabanda sa scheds nya...

ang lungkot nga lang kasi kahit buo kami eh di pa rin kami talaga nagkikitang magkakasama lahat... unlike Pillow who as of now, as usual eh wala nanamang singer (Apple has to leave the band to focus on her work)... But we've (Pillow) been able to practice twice na since i've got back... Palibhasa may new song kasi...

Grabe, tagal ko na talaga di nag po-post... ang dain na ng mga nangyari...

anyway, last few days na namin dito sa States and sobrang excited na ako makabalik sa Pinas... Syempre gusto ko na makita family ko and friends... miss ko na rin ang maraming lugar dyan sa Manila... haaay, ang mahal ng yosi dito at sobrang laki ng servings ng mga pagkain... lumobo nanaman ako dahil panay Pinoy food ang kinakain namin... pero lately, kumakain nanaman kami ng mga American food na kung minsan ay walang kalasa-lasa...

compared to my last trip here, mas masaya ngayon since nakakapag-adjust na rin kami ng mabilis at ang babait talaga ng mga taong nag-aalaga sa amin dito...

oo nga pala, we've been to Canada rin for almost a week... ang ganda ganda dun, sayang kahapon lang ako bumili ng Camera... ang dami ko sanang kinunan na mga pics... nakakapang-hinayang talaga yung Asobi Seksu na gig, nagpapicture kami sa Singer pero until now di pa sinisend sa akin yung pics...

ilang araw nalang at nandyan na kami, can't wait talaga... gusto ko na talaga tumugtog ulit...

the rains really did it for me last September 8, Tuesday... it's a good thing that Haydeys was able to make it last time at Sazi's... and since there were only 2 bands that night, we took the liberty of doing really long sets...

Haydeys is an Indierock band that boast some really melodic tunes, sweet guitar lines, catchy beats and lush keyboard sounds... they sing some of their songs in tagalog and do a cover of a Death Cab For Cutie song... They do show a lot of promise...

anyways, as for the photo sessions we did after our very long set, here are some worth sharing...

by the way, i was able to write new songs for Candyaudioline after millions and billions of years... hope we get to Jam them soon...

recently had time to do this... Rommel from Sonnet LVIII took these... kinda funny because of the way he played around with the nightshot mode of my camera... he even made some effort to get really up-close shots of us... hehehe, had to darken these up a bit to hide some undesirable details... the sound quality suffered a bit but at least you'll get a slight idea of what we sound like, specially our guitars when you're near the stage...

Bitin Sa 70's... Lasingan Sa Studio...

Medyo nabitin kami last Monday when we played a gig at 70's Bistro... it was supposed to be a bawi gig since the last time we performed there about a week ago eh medyo kalat kami... todo prepare pa naman kami sa gig na ito since we really wanted to do better this time around... yun lang since the main band (Parokya Ni Edgar) was already complete we had to cut our set from 5 songs down to 3... kaya instead of playing the songs we practiced eh we had to settle playing songs na medyo lengthy... actually isang song lang naman yung mahaba eh yung last 2 were not really long songs...

so after taking a short breather and shots of isaw and hotdogs at the nearby isawan, we decided to satisfy our 'tugtog" cravings by having an impromptu parctice thing... actually it was supposed to be an inuman session but i thought it would be nice if we just jammed together while having our inuman thing... di kami nag sisi and it was really fun... specially during the second round... i think by this time lasing na ako... nmalamang uulit ulitin na namin ang ganitong sistema ng pag-papraktis at di magtatagal eh mga drunkards na kami... tingin ko ako lang cguro since yung apat eh medyo sanay uminom eh... anyway, feel good talaga yung dating and it made me feel relaxed and not really rushing things like i usually do during practice... before going home, me, dennis and maggs went for a quick mami... di na nakasama sa amin sina Jeff and Celene...

going back to the gig, we sure did well than last time... i watched it on video and enjoyed every song kahit na nag 3 songs lang kami at kahit parang baliw yung mga kuha ni Rommel (Sonnet LVIII) sa video... hope in the future mas tight pa kami at mas more presentable while playing... i think it's about time for candy to shine again... our two new members has really blended well with us... Celene is a really promising vocalist, Jeff naman is a very good drummer... Maggot has been showing some improvements lately while me and Dennis on the other hand have been successful in avoiding the regular places (Sauna's, Health Clubs and Strip Joints) we usually like going to...

also i think it's about time to update our Blogs, Multiply and Myspace acoounts...

Brain buzzing

It's been 3 weeks nearly closing to a month since I joined Candy. To tell you the truth, I'm still overwhelmed that I'm actually singing with them. And yes, I won't deny the fact that I'm indubitably new to the whole scene.

I will never forget the time when I attended the first practice with them. I still find it funny that I was hushed and that I was all shaky the whole time. I guess I was still adjusting and feeling out every member. Nonetheless, I guess it was obvious that I was very conscious of how I should sing their songs that I made sure I took down notes for every song we practiced that night. The next day was my first time to sing with them in front of a crowd - hell, it was nerve-racking. I tried holding the lyric sheet by hair's breadth. I had it recorded on video and I could barely watch myself. I was out of tune and I couldn't even hear myself singing at all. In spite all that, it was relatively a very good experience for me.

Weeks passed and we had lots of late night practices and a couple of gigs scheduled in different places. Within that period, I was already able to adjust with all of them - Allan, Dennis, Rene, Gotheng (even if I've just been with her twice), and Jeff (obviously). I quickly got the hang of their behavior of scrutinizing things - even me. I guess they were surprised I was having fun messing around rather than being all sensitive about it. I even find it funny when they said I looked like Scrat or that I should play the guitar-like keyboard the way Jimi Hendrix did. I'd laugh it off and get back at them after. Priceless.

I don't dismiss the verity that for every time we had a gig or a practice I get so tired that when I get home I flump right into bed. It'd take me 2-3 hours of sleep before I get up to work. I barely get enough sleep.

But, it's all worth it.

I'd wake up in the morning - all re-energized and uberly happy, regardless if I wasn't able to rest much. It was the music and at the same time I'm enjoying the company of new friends. This is long enough and I'd keep this short, I might get too melodramatic. It's that - I am happy. I know I still have much to learn and experience with the band and yeah, I'm excited just thinking about it. So yeah, to Allan, Rene, Jeff, Dennis and Gotheng - thanks for bringing my sanity back. I'm looking forward to more music-playing with all of you :)

Playing Old Songs

Hello everyone...

it's been a while since my last Candy-Post...

i guess it's safe to say that we're back and everything seems to be alright again... Our two new members, Jeff and Celene has really helped a lot in making things interesting again... Practice has never been this fun and fruitful... although we've yet to experience playing a flawless gig but i guess we're getting there...

last night's practice was great... we focused on playing songs that we seldom play... "for all i care", "out of fuel", "broken to pieces", "all smiles", "can't sleep", "nearby town", "pretend that we're smart", "light a candle" and "painful" were just a few of the songs we practiced last night and Jeff's playing brought back the decency in all of these songs specially in "broken...", "painful", "out of fuel" and "can't sleep"... we sounded more like an indierock band which focuses more on it's indie-ness... even songs like "we've been there" and "my silver chair - dance version" gained some "twee-ness"... unlike before with our past drummer wherein these song rocked a lot...

Celene on the otherhand fit's this bands requirements .. She sings in ways i like my songs to be sung although she's still having problems with some songs specially the higher pitched ones... i think a few more practices and she'll be able to do it properly...

i'm very thankful to Rene for filling in for Maggot every now and then... hopefully when everything's really back to normal, we'll see more of Maggot... it's still catching up time for both new members and Maggot has more important things to do... when that time comes, it'll surely be a blast...

lot's of things to look foward to and lots of old songs to fool around with...

it's the 2nd time around for us and inspite of the very little improvement i'm still very optimistic about our current situation...

the Strange Geometry gig at Route 196 just a while ago was slightly better than the one we had at Sazi's 3 nights before... the intruments were tight and i guess we weren't our usual loud self but it felt quite good... as if everything was in order (thanks to Jeff's steadiness) save for the vocals which at times was quite embarrassing... still Celene improved a lot compared to the first gig... she was more prepared this time around that she even bought with her alcohol and cotton which she made good use during our set... even i have been singing off key thanks to my slightly deaf left ear...

anyways... it going to be another long climb from here but i guess it'll be more fun this time around...

nice set to the following bands... Phantom Sizemore, The Shocking Details and Gentle Isolation... wasn't able to catch Dress and was to tired to watch Outerhope but i did here a lot of praises for these two...

Practice And Bulalo...

we had another practice last night in preparation for tonight's 70's Bistro gig... i was really amused at Jeff... i made him play four songs which we haven't jammed yet... Still he was able to execute them in just one take, to almost near perfection, simply by just listening to the songs repeatedly... i just wish that Maggot had that abilty... speaking of Maggot, i wasn't able to make her sing again... as usual, she wasn't able to prepare... anyways, we had to cut the practice short since jeff had to rush back home... i later learned, through Ayn that it was his birthday... Sayang, medyo late a rin kasi and we had to take Maggot home too...

on our way to Maggot's place, we stumbled along a bulaluhan somewhere in Blumentrit, San Juan near F. Manlo St.... Masarap... yun lang, a medium sized bowl at a PhP120 is a bit pricy pero talagang masarap... syempre, di mawawala ang kulitang Dennis at Maggot... Bilib talaga ako kay Dennis, pati yung bantay ng Bulaluhan eh nagawan nya talaga ng panlalait... i was hoping to talk to them about my plan for Candy pero i decided not too because i've yet to decide on it... nakakalungkot nga lang kasi talagang alangin pa rin lahat and i think matatagaln pa bago maging steady kami ulit... we really want Jeff to be our drummer, even Jann Paul suggested that he was perfect for us... Pero if we'll have Jeff as our permanent drummer, we still have to look for a back-up just in case his other bands need him... Hay naku nga naman... if ever nga pala, dapat ko pa pala ipa-alam sa mga bandmates nya ito...

Hmmmm, sana maraming Elaine sa Manila... Hehehe, tanggap na ni Rene na di na cya papayat... Sana bigwasan na ni Maggot si Dennis... Sana yumaman na kami ni Dennis...

didn't have anything to do last Saturday so i called up Dennis and Rene and asked then if they'd like to watch Ice Age 3 with me... i was able to watch the movie a few days ago via download and was really laughing my head off inspite of the mediocre quality of the download...

Ice Age 3 is really a treat to watch... i was expecting Crash and Eddie to continue their craziness in this film but i guess they had to give way to a new character called Buck in that department... Even Diego was had a number of quite funny scenes himself... Sid was super all through out and Scrat too... Ooops, guess i have to stop from here...

Me, Rene and Dennis was able to watch the 3D version of the movie by accident which made the trip even more enjoyabe... i suggest you watch i too...

An Almost Fresh New Start At Al's Bar...

Last Thursday, July 9, we played our first gig since the last one we had at Buzz Night almosr 3 weeks prior...

it's not been going well with us since, after that Buzz Night... our drummer (without prior notice) left temporarily since he had to work... until about a week ago, i was having second thoughts whether to get a replacement or just a sessionist... i've decided to get a replacement instead although as of yet there's nothing official about it... also, i'm quite pissed at our vocalist for chosing not to play that gig and instead, watch another gig by some other band whom with which she has a crush on one of it's members...

back to Al's Bar gig... we needed just one practice session with Jeff (Disco Ball, Scarlet Tears)... we did prepare about 6 songs (but we were able to jam around 11 songs) going to that gig although we only played 4... it was quite an enjoyable one... Jeff was so steady that i didn't have a hard time catching my breath while singing... although both mine and Dennis' amps, after about 2 songs gave in... Rene sessioned for us too since it was also Maggot's Birthday that night...

while waiting for our turn to play, me and Jeff talked about him being a permanent member... Dennis suggested that we should take him in... Jeff liked the idea and so do i... but i have second thoughts since i quite respect both the bands wherein Jeff plays... we just have to lety the future decide on this...

as of now, we'll just have Jeff play drums for us whenever he can, while it is still me and Dennis doing the guitar chores... rene we'll be playing bass for a while and Maggot (although she has yet to be informed) will be the one to sing...

Still Down And Out...

A New Dilemna: The Candy-Pillow-Double-Helix

Just when Soft Pillow Kisses just recently ended it's "Who's Gonna Play Guitar?" woes which has been going on for almost 2 months, Candyaudioline is now saddled with a new dilemna... It's "Who's Gonna Play Drums?" for us now after Kel, surprisingly and with out warning, texted me a few days ago that he's quitting his work at Backbeat and at the same time will be taking a break from playing in bands... According to him, he'll start training for work next Monday... he's decided on leaving because of stress which he says has been the cause for his being sick most of the time... he's decided to give the real world a try and will be preparing for his future...

Funny how things can turn out good or bad with just a snap of the finger or a twist of the head... sadly i can't compete with the dictates of the real world and since being in a band like mine which can't really offer anything that would translate to security, i've no choice but to bow down to situation and look towards a new horizon...

so far only Dennis knows of the situation and we both share the same sentiments which i'll just keep between him and me... i remember when Apple (current Pillow vox) was also facing the same situation (Stressful working situation and the pressures of getting thru culinary school and getting a job)... at least she told me way way before her plans of quitting the Job at Backbeat... i understood her situation since she wasn't making much at that time with the Artist assigned to her but still she tried hanging on until it was really impossible for her to give her time to Backbeat... at that time i thought that she was also giving up being Pillow's vocalist but she didn't...

i only wish that Kel could've done the same... specially with his work with Backbeat... he should've told me in advance his plans so that i would have been able to "gradually" inform the Band, to which he is assigned to, that he'll be leaving... Now almost everyone is a bit disappointed at him... the last time we texted, he told me that he'll text or inform everyone concerned of his decision to leave work but it seemed that he didn't, so when i told everyone concerned of his leaving work everyone was really surprised and took it in a slightly negative light... i guess, like me, they felt a bit betrayed since they've already accepted him like a really close friend whom they could place their trust on...

as for Candyaudioline, he told me that he's not quitting but he'll need time to establish himself at work... he said two months would do... honestly, i don't get it? but guess i just have to let fate decide on things... i just hope that in time, things would all be in a proper perspective and that the choices made and "will be made" would all be for the greater good of everyone concerned...

honestly, i'm really saddened and utterly disappointed... i didn't plan on wasting my precious time and throwing loads of hard earned money only to end up being at the bottom of the stairs again...

Something Really Stupid...

it's been like 2 weeks already since i started to look for an ipod earphone, the original one... i've gone to about 4 apple centers and all they can say is that it's been out of stock... last night i went to MOA in an attempt to get me one but all i got was disappointment... they were selling the earphones but it was a modified one... it had a buit-in microphone in it and cost about 200 pesos more than the original one... i asked the sales rep if there were anymore of the original earphones and he said that this was going to the the standard one (the one with the mic)since they were gearing up for upcoming features of the newer ipod models which will be coming out of the market soon... think about that that... they (Apple) weren't even concerned about those of us who owns an ipod classic... what use will that stupid built in mic be for my unit and for the many countless others who have the same model as i have... actually i've a rare one, it's a 160gb ipod...
i hope those guys at Apple get back to their senses and start thinking or even considering the countless others out there who owns the classic or even other ipod models which don't or won't ever have recording features with it...

B-B-Q and 70's Bistro...

long gone are those days when playing at 70's Bistro was like an excercise in testing your bands sonic limit in a reverse manner... it's like exploring the limits of how soft your band can play...

but for almost a year now, there's not much limit as to how loud you can play as long as the amps can keep up with your aural pace... it's a good thing really because you're not palying really loud even though you thinks you are which allows your audience to get a good listen to your stuff and appreciate you more...

with that taken into account, there's another great thing going for you once you get to play at 70's Bistro... the B-B-Q stands on both sides just outside the venue... last night i think me and my bandmates spent almost 450 bucks on them... the pork ang chicken isaws are really good, ang also the bite size hotdogs although it was supposed to be stuffed with cheese but last night's wasn't... still it was quite delicious... i think i had 4 or 5...

going back to last night's gig... i think we did well and on top of that, we played some songs which we seldom play... can't wait to play there again...

as usual, i arrived late na since i was coming from another late event somewhere sa q.c. di ko tuloym inabot yung The Shocking Detail...

anyways, while on my way, dennis texted me about ecay's "nowhere-ness" so i tried calling her... after 11 attempts and with my patience running out, i decided na baka last nalang kami... when i got to Sazi's, wala pa talaga sya, naabutan ko pa yung Phantom Sizemore, ang pogi ng tunog nila... pati yung cover nila ng MBV pogi din...

akala ko kami na nung patapos na yung Phantom kaya lalu akong nainis kay Pimples kasi wala pa talaga sya... nung mag start na yung Weedisneys eh dumating ang bruha at nag sosorry kasi naiwan daw nya phone nya... Haay naku nga naman, naman naman...

anyways, okey naman yung set ng Disneys yun nga lang eh nawalan ako ng gana nung i cover nila yun Careless Whisper... Slumbook na dapat yung next since nasabihan na pala ni Dennis na last na kami pero sa sobrang pagod ko na eh nag pauna na ako ulit... sorry Slumboys!!!

Ayus naman ang set namin medyo bitin nga lang since we didn't play some of our long songs...

Slumbook came in next... as usual they were a treat to watch at dinig na rin kahit paano yung vox nila... pero there was something wrong with the guitars... as me and Joey of Phantom agreed na medyo nagbabaggaan ang mga notes nila... i got to talk with the boys after their set and hopefully ma-correst nila yun soon...

uwi na sana kami after pero ayaw pa ng iba so me, ecay, dens, maggs and rene went to Colassas... grabe, ang sarap talaga ng chiriso dun at pati na rin yung pansit... ang mura pa...

next time alam ko na kung saan pwede dalhin yung iba pag gusto kong makamura...

i've been very lazy posting stuff for the past month... actually, i still am feeling lazy posting and i'm just lazily posting this just to fill up this space for the time being...

so what's up with candyaudioline? we've been playing a lot lately and i guess my problems with my bandmates will forever be with me and us in particular as long as we are together... hmmm, actually, i've decided to live with it since i really can't do anything about it... although ther's something that can be done but that will require a major overhaul again and i don't want that to happen, not yet...

enjoy pa rin naman talaga... at kahit na paulit ulit na pinasasakit ni maggot ang ulo ko dahil sa mga "hindi sya pwede" at yung "sobrang-walang-kasing-ubot-ng-late" nya sa pag dating sa mga gigs and practices eh tanggap ko na rin talaga... maybe growing old softens people or talagang tinatamad lang ako ipagpilitan ang gusto ko... hehehe, kung alam nyo lang...

ecay is doing well kahit na alam kong sooner or later eh iiwan na kami nyan, either kukunin na cya ng parents nya sa U.S. of A. or magkakasyota sya ng isang taong di ko trip at pagtritripan ko hanggang sa mapikon yan sa akin at dahil sa di ko pwedeng patulan yang si ecay dahil sa kabila ng laki nyan eh sanggol parin talaga yan sa totoo lang eh baka ibaling ko na-lang sa kung sinong kawawang nilalang ang asar ko... she's been singing very wll for the past couple of gigs kaya di ko na muna itutuloy ang rants ko na related sa kanya...

si dennis naman eh lumalala.. lalung nagiging hardcore... malamang epekto yan ng pag-sesession nya sa soft pillow kisses... akalaiin mo ba namang humirit na "pasusukahin daw nya ng dugo" yung isang artistang nakita namin if ever magka-chance cya na maka-one-night-stand yung kawawang innocent looking girl actress... at balak pa nyang komangin yun ha... tsk tsk tsk...

kel naman has been steady although may mga times na carried away sa mga gigs eh at least di na kasing erratic compared to dati...

like my entry sa blog ng pillow, nalulungkot ako kasi mukang wala kami sa buzz night this may 24... sunday cya by the way... kaya nga ako kumuha ng sunday eh para walang sagasa pero ayun, sapul pa rin...

yan lang muna... dami pa ako kwento sana pero... next time...

Practice At Last And An Ambush Gig Last March 6...

should've posted this 5 days ago but i was too tired to do so... anyways, we were able to pull-off a practice session in preparation for the recently concluded Buzz Night last March 6... it was quite a relief since i was really pissed-off at not being able to properly organize one for almost 2 weeks... it came to a point that i got so tired that it made me think of really unpleansant things...

Actually, Candyaudioline was in some sort of a problematic state for almost 2 months now... with me and Dennis not really pleased with the way we've been doing during gigs... it reached to a point that i almost came to a decision to ______________...

but it was not that easy because i was not ready to let go... I did try to be patient with everyone but everything will always have a limit... sobrang questionable na kasi yung situation and i can't really blame anyone in particular... this made me believe na time was catching up with Candy... so i had to ask everyone if they were still in it...

Assurances were made so i had to decide... i arranged a practice session and tried to get a gig that same day without letting them know (of the gig) until the last few hours before practice... i said to myself that it neither one does not push through, then i'll be chopping heads... i informed them of the gig 2 hours prior to practice in which everyone agreed but then as expected, barely 30 minutes later, one of my bandmates told me that she won't be able to play the gig... so this got me really pissed-off again but i tried really hard to control myself and decided to lower the stakes... that member would have to do well in practice or else...

so a soon as we were all at the studio, i repeatedly and jokingly asked Dennis if i should be disbanding Candyaudioline right there and then... i guess everyone, save for me, was enjoying each other's company too much that they didn't took seriously what i was implying on them... so on to the practice... almost an hour and twenty minutes worth of tightly ripping through a few Candy songs was enough to make me decide to forget at how pissed i was during the past few weeks... i guess, the few minutes also with Superminty help me clear my head of negative thoughts... the member who wasn't supposed to make it to the gig decided to play on the condition that we'll be playing as soon as we get there...

after practice, we all rushed to Bar TEN02... on the way, i decided (to myself) to let Superminty play instead because it was not possible for Candyaudioline to be lined up immediately... still that person waited and after almost 45 minutes, we got to play as Candyaudioline... We did just 4 songs and everyone of us enjoyed that short set..

hopefully, everything would be fine from that moment onwards... Last Tuesday, during Buzz Night at Club Dredd, i guess we did quite well...

hello hello...

for almost 2 days i could not access candy's multiply site... sayang dami ko pa naman sana gusto i post pero wala na... tinamad na ako... anyways, thanks to Ecay, dahil sa kanya eh buhay pa rin ang multiply site ng candy so expect more posts in the near future...

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the bands who participated during the last Buzz Night at Freedom Bar... sayang, i didn't make any effort to hype it up... nung Saturday ko lang na realise na ang ganda pala ng line-up...

salamat din sa Slumbook at kay Sir Carl sa pag sama sa Candy-Pillow eating sessions ha... sana sinama nyo na rin yung mga iba pang naiwan sa Freedom (peeps from Ballon Derby and Carnival Park) last time around... aliw talaga... sensha na rin sa lahat dahil sobrang pagod talaga ako nung araw na yun (Kamikazee had a video shoot that day which started at around 6am and abruptly ending at around 8:30pm at sobrang daming loopholes na kailangan ayusin ni yours truly)...

That's that for now...

No Practice Scheme Backfired... Pero Ok lang...

We played in Don Bosco, Mandaulyong last Saturday, sadly ang sagwa namin that night... Dennis was erratically playing his lines, ako naman aside from singing out of tune, had a hard time playing my guitar which made me miss the right frets more than a dozen times... Ecay too was singing like a 10 year old boy... at least Maggot played really well and so did Kel... Anyways, okey lang naman na sumabit at least we did play a gig and had a chance to be together... weird kasi since sanay ako na madalas tumutugtog ang Candyaudoline but nung January, the only other gig we had aside from that January 31 stint at Don Bosco was Jan. 3's Buzz Night...

this gig made me think about having regular practice sessions nalang instead of waiting for a song to come out from me before calling practice... i should not have listened to that Half Dreaming compilation... Honestly, na dis-orient ako dun... After hearing some of the songs from that compilation, i kinda lost track as to what kind of songs i wanted to do for Candy... Pero okey na ako... I realised that hindi nga pala Dream Pop ang Candyaudioline and from the start naman eh it's always been the Noise and yung Angst plus the melodies... So i've decided to just simply continue and finished some of the songs that i've recently written as they were... yun lang, i'm still not that confident with the arrangements... maybe soon ayus na...

This Friday will be Buzz Night... gusto ko na rin kalimutan yung last gig at mag mukang presentable naman this time around... may tonight or tomorrow we'll be having practice with or without a new song...

The Mastering Did it For Us At Half Dreaming...

Just got a copy of Half Dreaming - Asian Shoegaze Compilation via Soulseek... I was a bit excited at knowing how we did compared to Asian neighbors... i wasn't really expecting Candyaudioline to be as good as any of them... Having heard some acts via Youtube and a few Blogsites, i am quite convinced that the Philippines has been far behind the rest of pack for quite some time in the dreamy Shoegaze dept... as i listened to every track, i can't help but feel quite envious... They sure know how to play the music... The guitars, the arangements, the levels and most specially the feel... finally. track 12, our song "Felt So Fine"... i was quite shocked... it sounded really different... it was a bit loud... everyting was way too "up"... nawala yung "Twee" aspect nung song... anyways, i waited 'til the whole compilation was done... Every track was really good except for "Love Is So Strange" by Everyone Loves Irene from Indonesia, which it utter trash... funny since the best track (for me) come from a band from Indonesia. It's the 3rd track called "Perfect Angel" by Cataclysmic... The other so-so track being our song...

i'm putting the blame on how our song was Mastered... Mastering by the way is a recording process in which a certain track (or multiple tracks) is levelled and sometimes, if necessary, tampered thru equalization so that it will be of the same audio characteristics (volume and frequencies)as that of the other tracks to which it is beaing compiled with... it was quite obvious that our track went thru an equalization process which slightly affected how it sounds... I'm not saying that if hadn't gone thru equalization, it would've been the best track of the pack... i'm simply saying that it would've sounded a bit more decent...

Mavi Sings For Candy...

last night. we played our second gig for this year... it was just a short notice gig since i only decided on this last Wed's... Soft Pillow Kisses was supposed to be the one having a gig last night somewhere in Xavierville but Apple told me (a week ago)that it was her Dad's Birthday... i was going to push through with it if only i was able to find a suitable session singer but i later learned that Backbeat has scheduled a gig at Club Dredd... So had to let go of that Xavierville thing and just let one of my bands play at that Dredd thing... I decided on Candyaudioline since we haven't been practicing lately... Playing there was a good excuse for having practice... Sadly, Ecay could not commit herself the night before because she was feeling sick... I really wanted to play so i decided to look for a sessionist... Ex- Pillow / Candy Jinky was the first one that enterd my mind but she too was down with flu... Running out of Options last Thursday, i decided on Mavi... i asked Deana if she has Mavi's number and after getting it from Deana, i called her at once and begged her to sing for us... i was surprised at how easy i got her to agree inspite of the fact that she had lots of things lined up, work related, during the day of the gig...

so last night, without the benefit of practice again, we took the stage... we did only four songs since the gig started very late... all i can say is that is was quite fun... Everyone was happy seing her again specially Maggot who spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening trying to figure out who our sessionist singer was going to be... Me too enjoyed the whole thing and i was even surprised that Mavi was Talking on stage... i guessed she missed singing for us... and she did quite well inspite of the fact that she was a bit bothered at not hearing herself the whole time... Deana wasn't able to see us play but she did come just to see Mavi again... I promised Mavi that i'll let her off the earliest possible time but she decided to stay with us just a bit more... she decided to leave at around 1:30am... i offered to take her to her place... Maggot and Deana joined me...

After the Dredd gig, Me, Dennis, Maggot, Kel, Deana and Lorenz went to Timog to eat... as usual, we talked about the the just concluded gig... everyone was pleased with the gig... i guess they were all surprised as to my getting Mavi to session... actually, i had my reasons and i just wanted to try something out just to prove a point... i can say that i was able prove that something... so where does this all lead then? nothing really... it just made me miss those days...

those days where everyone was so eager to be with one another...

I'll be postiing some picures i took and also a video clip or two of last night's gig as soon as i get a chance to do so...

No Practices... For The Meantime... Movie Marathon

It's either i'm still exhausted from the recent month's exercise or i'm just simply trying to enjoy other things... one thing that really did help me out during my recent Dubai escapade was wasting time away lying in my bed watching freshly downloaded torent stuff and a few cd's that i brought along with me and a few more that i bought there...

of the almost month's stay that i was there, i treated myself to loads of FPJ (Lahat ng 8 in 1 ko pinamigay ko sa takot na mahulihan ako ng Pirated DVD's) and Stephen Chow stuff, a few Jackie Chan, Will Ferrel and Simon Pegg flicks, some Marvel movies and a healthy dose of Asian - mostly Korean - stuff... i also had with me some artsy films (naiwan ko pala sa Hotel yung East Is east DVD ko), sports oriented and a few one's with musical reference (Matagal ko rin di napanuod ang "The Legend Of 1900")...

for the past few days, i've been also wasting the time away lying comfortably on a sofa watching video downloads... last thursday with Dennis and Rene, we watched 2 films... one was Rush Hour 3 which we had a hell of a time laughing at Detective Carter's "Mouthy" antics... the other one was a Korean movie which i recently had my hand on called "Oldboy"... i'm not really into reviewing stuff so i won't be writing anything about this one... although i would suggest that anyone of you who wishes to watch something of excellence should get you hands on this Movie... 'nuff said...

last saturday, i opted not to practice... and inspired by what Rene suggested to me with reagrds to Soft Pillow Kisses, i suggested to my candyaudioline band mates that there won't be any practice sessions for the meantine unless we could come up with new songs to waste the time away... so i texted my Movie watching buddies but only dennis was available and we were able to watch 3 movies... it was supposed to be 4 but we got a bit distracted during Jackie Chan's "Battle Creek Brawl" becuase i let Dennis listen to some upcoming tracks from a future Fleeting Joys release... We really had our jaws and head aching, laughing our faces off while Watching "How To Lose Friends And Alienate People" - a Simon Pegg Starrer and Mike Myer's "Love Guru"... "How To Lose Friends And Alienate People" is just simply genius!!! i really find Brits more "effortlessly" funny than Americans... the storyline is a bit cliche' though, but still it's one movie that'll i'll be bragging about for quite a long time and also, gigil na gigil kami ni Dennis kay Megan Fox... Love Guru is typical Myer's humour although i found those acronyms "wickedly smart and funny"... the last movie we watched was "Joy Division", it's a documentary about the band Joy Division with commentaries from the three surviving members and some of the people present during JD's Inception, Ascension and Demise... this documentary, free of the excess and glamour of "24 Hour Party People" and more closer to reality compared to "Closer" made me realise that Ian Curtis was really a far bigger Icon than how most of us see him... how i wish there is someone like a Tony Wilson here in our country...

Oh well... that's that for the mean time...

by the way, the last movie i watched before going online an hour ago was "Underdog" and while posting this entry i spent my some time browsing thru some freshly downloaded stuff the most note wote worthy of which are "Kekko Kamen Royale" which features Maria Ozawa - mind you, this one's a bit conservative and "Lolita" with Jeremy Irons... i already had this one before but it got lost after i had my PC fixed...

i'll leave you with a quote from Dennis of Candyaudioline... he noticed, while watching "Joy Division", how soaked in sweat Ian Curtis was during the "So It Goes" TV appearance of Joy Division...

Bonggang Buzz Night!!!

First of all, salamat kina Sir Carl, Ria and Topei for helping me out when all of a sudden, Lazy Chocolate seemed nowhere to be found... and also to Miss Conney Carnival for lending our visiting band her acoustic guitar... at kay Selena rin pala for joining us during soundcheck...

salamat din kina sir JP ng Route 196 (venue) and Maam Bernadette ng SNS (sound system)... and also to my Backbeat Family for supporting me in this gig...

well, i did not expect this one to be an event of sorts... It was just suppose to be another regular Buzz Night thing with the exception of having a guess band coming from another country courtesy of Topei and Ria...

yup, i did decide to reinforce the venue not because we have a visitor that night but because of me knowing from Carl and other peeps that the venue's bass amp and one of the guitar amps were beginning to have a mind of their own... Pero buti nalang coz i didn't expect that Lazy Chocolate would be having so many gadgets and contraptions with them... naka full battle gear sila... tulo-laway nga kami ni Dennis sa mga gadget nila eh...

anyways, what made Buzz Night a bit Bongga that night was the presence of so many Buzz Night Alumni... para ngang 2001-2002 ulit eh... and it was truly a nice sight seeing them again together and even watching almost all of the acts that performed that night... to me, parang it even eclipsed the presence of having a foreign band in the line up... kung nandun lang kagabi yung "intergalactic-way-beyond-superstar-guitar-god" na bahista ng Colour Contest, i would've begged them to play kasi halos kumpleto sila kagabi... it was nice seeing Richard Colour Contest again and also Mike Wadaiko, and even Clifford Kid Auto who was with Radio Manila pala who played some really nice tunes... Attention Slumbook...

hehehe Slumbook talaga ang "Band Of The Night" kagabi... kahit sabit-sabit eh talagang panalo itong mga ito... ganda ng mga tunes nyo chong... paano kaya kung sobrang ayos nila tumugtog? Speaking of Slumbook, Elib talag ako sa kisig nyo kagabi... pinagsasamantalahan nyo yung walang kamalay-malay na Keyboardist ng Lazy Chocolate... Pag nakahalata yung ibang members nun eh baka karatehin kayo nung mga yun... at yung bahista nyo, di ko maintindihan kung sino ba talaga ang gusto... pabago bago... naku chong, huwag mo na targetin yun... may sumundo dun kagabi na di ko trip... sayang di na tayo tuloy naka-hang-out kanina... balak ko pa naman kayo dalhin sa isang lugar na mananawa kayo sa nagpuputiang kilikili, makikinis na binti at naghahabaang leeg... di bali, kasama nyo naman umuwi si Kuya Francis nyo... sana di kayo dinala nun sa mga maalikabok na Videokehan sa Valenzuela... Wally, bawi ako sa susunod... sobrang pagod ko na rin talaga ako kanina pero di naman ako makatulog...

it's good to be back here in the Philippines... After almost a month? Tuloy ang ligaya!!! can't really express my happiness the moment i got off the plane... as usual napaka-chaotic pa rin pero what the heck... I'd rather be in a chaoticly free environment than in an orderly yet suffocating one...

hehehe, sa sobrang tuwa ko di na tuloy ako makatulog... well, cguro i'm just looking forward to a lot of things... syempre kailangan bumawi... plus i guess i have to do a lot of catching up... i'm going to take it one at a time and the nearest one on my mind are the unpaid bills and this weekend's Buzz Night (Grabe, miss ko na mga kabanda ko)... which brings to mind something which i've decided to keep to myself for now... But i just can't help thinking as to how some people can, at times be offensively wicked and dumb at the same time...

Basically, nakakabagot dito...

most of my time is spent on waiting and being annoyed at people...

i start my Day waking up with warm rays of sunshine on my face and shivering chills all over my body brought about by the obnoxiosly cold room temperature... blame it on the demon possesed aircom na kahit i-set mo sa low eh saksakan ng lamig yung binibugang hangin lalu na between 4am-9am in the morning...
dahil sa lamig, nakakatamad bumangon, buti nalang i have everything at a table beside my bed... Cellphone, yosi, lighter, ashtray, remote ng TV and Portable DVD player, bottled water at sari saring chicha from cookies to bread and chocolates... konting unat lang, abot kamay na...

i get out of bed usually 30 minutes to an hour after i wake up... syempre sulyap muna bintana ng Hotel para ipon lakas galing sa mid-morning sun... then ligo at balik sa kama sabay nood lit TV habang pinag-iisipan ko kung lalabas ako o hindi after ako tawagan mga mga taong kailangan kong kausapin... usually i get those calles between 9:30am to 11:30am... so by 11:30 sobrang wala nang sense ang pag stay ko sa hotel... kaya lang nakakatamad ding lumabas kasi mapapagastos lang ako, kung di sa kain eh sa taxi... kaya i usually decide on staying inside the room and just watch TV or DVDs... boring di ba... there was even a time na sa sobrang bored ko eh ginawa kong Pick-up Sticks yung binili kong cotton buds... haaaay... nakakalungkot din mag on-line kasi wala naman akong natatanggap na kahit paano from peolple i know... Buti nalang mabagal ang internet connection kasi napagtrirtripan ko nalang matuwa pag biglang bumibilis ang pag download ko ng kung anu ano...

sa sobrang nakatamad ng situation ko eh pati pagpunta sa katabing resto ay tinatamad na rin ako... mabuti nalang at may nakilala akong cook dun at pinadadala ko na lang yung orders ko dito sa kwarto... pagkagat ng dilim eh parang wala rin although nagiging mas marami at maingay ang mga tao sa labas... 2nd floor lang ako kaya dinig ko ng konti... for the past 3 days nagpunta ako sa iba't ibang malls pero wala ring akong napala... maganda lang at malaki ang mga ito pero walang ipinagkaiba sa atin...

minsan lang ako may kausap at kadalasan eh yung receptionist na pinay na nakaduty between 2pm to 11pm. yun lang lately eh parang di na kami makapag-usap gaano kasi yung mga ibang lahi eh parang binibigyan ng malisya yung ngitian at kulitan namin... iniwasan ko na rin kasi baka mawalan pa ng trabaho yung girl... eh mukang magtatagal pa ako dito kaya titiisin ko muna yung pagiging mag-isa ko...

hirap din matulog kasi nasanay ako na may kadaldalan bago matulog... buti nalang at kahit na paano ay may at least 7 mitnong channels dto at dala ko rin yung portable DVD player ko... oo nga pala, sa sobrang katamaran ko eh pumayat din ako ng konti...

Haaaay, nasira pa yung shoes at belt ko... ang papangit naman ng mga binibentang sapatos dto...

pag balik ng Pinas, magpaparty ako sa mga fave spots ko... Miss ko na bahay namin at ang mga kasama ko sa bahay... miss ko na rin mga kaibigan ko't ilang kakilala... miss ko na rin tumugtog...
